This week our topic was maps map reading , compass, and navigation. There is a lot to know and with our guest we explored as much as we could. We will need to have another session!

Our guest was Bruce Krell AE6VG. Bruce has been teaching navigation to the military and teaches pistol and long range shooting through his company Shooters Edge.

We covered benefits To Offroaders/Outdoors Adventurers of Knowing Map And Compass and Coordinate Systems and Grids.
We covered elements of A Map, Determining Grid Coordinates, Reading Terrain Features In A Map, Using A Map In The Field – Terrain Association, Determining Distance On A Map, Determining Grid Azimuth, Determining Location Given A Grid Point, An Azimuth, A Distance , Determining A Back Azimuth, Selecting A Compass, Using A Compass In The Field – Navigating With An Azimuth, Orienting A Map With A Compass, Determining Location With A Map, Compass, and Back Azimuth.

OAUSA Ham Radio Net


Our weekly Amateur Radio Net is held every Thursday evening at 7:30.  You may access the Net:

  • Anywhere in the US via the Western Reflector at node 9251;
  • In the Southern California area via the Keller Peak Repeater (KE6TZG) at 146.385, (+), 146.2;
  • In the San Diego area via the KA6UAI Repeater at 449.300,(-), 100.0.

All Amateurs are welcome.  Both the Western Reflector and Keller Peak are Echolink equipped.
